A sea of Poppies in the Gardens at Alpha Health Care to start the homes Remember November campaign.
A wonderful tribute has been created by staff in the gardens at Lakeview and Waters Edge Care homes, owned by Alpha Health Care.
The idea for a tribute display was started last November and this year it’s bigger and better than before starting off a celebration of remembrance across the whole of November.
Remembrance Sunday is always such an important date in the diary for residents and staff at Alpha Health Care. This year we wanted not only to pay tribute and honour the memory of loved ones who we have sadly lost, serving in our Armed Forces but also remember all those whom we have lost.
For our Remember November tribute we have taken inspiration from the Royal British Legion Fields of Remembrance and planted nearly 3,000 poppies which have been made from recycled bottles and turned into a fabulous poppy display. Along with the sea of poppies the staff have created wonderful remembrance displays in the gardens, including a memory room display, celebration chair and even a military bunker display.
We have had so much support from Local Schools who have also made poppies for us to decorate our windows, reception, residents’ lounges and rooms. Donations of over 500 knitted poppies have been used to attach to camouflage walling to help the display inside look as impressive as outside.
Caroline Wood, Chief Operating Officer who came up with the original concept said “We have been overwhelmed with the support we have received from the local community to help make our poppy display so very special”
“The Alpha Remember November display and celebrations is always one we all look forward to, it allows us to come together to honour those who served and remember their sacrifice.
The display our care homes have created this year are really wonderful, such hard work and thought has been put it to all the fine details and we are delighted how the display has turned out. We look forward to enjoying it during the whole month of November where we have a full programme of activities and events planned for our Remember November campaign”
